ReconstructIt: Developers

ReconstructIt currently runs on 32 bit MS Windows systems. One of the long term goals of the project is to port it to other platforms. I believe printing is the only thing truly windows dependent, and that using selective imports and abstracted printing routines would result in platform independence.

The program uses Neil Schemenauer's standalone Python 1.5.2 distribution for Windows. This offers some advantages:

• We don't need to install Python.
• We can be sure we don't have any version conflicts.
• We can strip out things we don't need and have a smaller distribution. Since at the time of this writing it is unlikely that many reconstruction specialists have Python installed, the ReconstructIt installer can be smaller that if we bundled in the regular Python installer.
